The Voice Nigeria season two winner and artist, Idyl has released his new single Owami, featuring South African singer-songwriter Lungi Naidoo. Owami is an electro-fusion and house inspired homage to contemporary Nigerian dance music, and we have already played over a 100 times here at GQ HQ.
‘Besides being an exciting song, Owami represents a cultural bridge between South Africa and Nigeria. The song is immediately relatable by listeners and fans in the two countries and indeed across the continent. I can’t wait for our fans to hear it’, Idyl explains the collaboration.
Lungi is excited and here for African artists collaborating. ‘Recording this song with Idyl only reiterated the fact that both countries have more similarities than differences, not just musically but also culturally. The connection was immediate and we both appreciate the final product. We are more than confident that fans from across will share in this enthusiasm and appreciation.’
Owami features a unique blend of Nigerian and South African influences evident in the beats, lyrics, language, and delivery.
