A few things about Mzansi’s most exciting racing event.
When it comes to events, we are sold to the idea that no one throws an event like Durbanites and that’s why every year people from across the continent throng Greyville Racecourse for the infamous Vodacom Durban July. The event is as much about fashion, music, entertainment as it is about the actual horse racing.
This year’s event is on the 7th July and here are a few things we have found out about it;
This year’s theme is ‘It Is Time’. What time it is for will be up to you when you decide how to get your outfit to match the theme. You can go wild with this theme, you can make your look futuristic or just do a throwback to even Great Gatsby years. We are excited about this theme.
The tickets to the VDJ are already available and the many people who have been to this event know that buying them sooner is the best, as, towards the event, they will be quite scarce.
Pre-VDJ event, there is a list of invited designers who will be invited to showcase their work, this is a sought after the show and a drawcard to the event. There is also the young designer award where design students are asked to come through and submit some of their work. Two finalists are chosen to be part of the main fashion show on the racing day. A winning young designer is chosen at the fashion show.
Marquees you want to be in
Over the years some marquees have become so sought after, it can be impossible to get access to them. Afrotainment, Durban Tourism, Boomtown, SABC and Vodacom marquees are the places to be if you are at VDJ.
Get on it now
If you want to head out to VDJ, we suggest you start making plans now. Everything from travel to accommodation gets expensive as we get closer to the main event, so the sooner, the better.
